What happens when global AI expertise meets the raw beauty of the Pearl of Africa?
Last month, EcoQuest Vacations had the distinct honor of organizing a mini trip for Dr. Vivek, a renowned expert traveling as part of the U.S. Speaker Program (organized by the U.S. Department of State and the US Mission in Uganda).
While Dr. Vivek’s mission was focused on the future of AI and business in Uganda https://www.youtube.com/live/Ac0MGFv2C-E?si=zRF9GYccsfXkJXEc, his journey reminded us that the best business trips are those that leave room for wonder. From the lecture halls of Makerere University to the thundering cascades of Murchison Falls Tours, here is a look at his transformative week in Uganda.
1. Uganda: Africa’s Rising Tech Hub
Dr. Vivek’s itinerary was a whirlwind of innovation. He engaged with top-tier academic and government institutions, including:
- Academia: Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST) and Makerere University.
- Government & Tech: The Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, NITA-Uganda, Uganda Communications Commission and the National ICT Innovation Hub.
- Strategic Partners: The Bank of Uganda, AmCham Uganda, and many vibrant local startups.
His takeaway? Uganda is uniquely positioned for an Agentic AI era. With 78% of the population under 30 and a streamlined national AI strategy, the country is itching to lead the continent in tech-driven entrepreneurship.
2. Finding the “Wild” in the Work Trip
At EcoQuest Vacations, we believe you haven’t truly seen Uganda until you’ve stepped away from the city lights. We guided Dr. Vivek to two of Uganda’s most iconic conservation sites:
- Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch: An intimate encounter with Uganda’s rhinos, a testament to the country’s successful conservation efforts.
- Murchison Falls National Park: Dr. Vivek witnessed the world’s most powerful waterfall. It wasn’t just about the wildlife; it was about the natural resources and beauty that make Uganda a premier global destination. We had fun comparing cow horns in Texas and Uganda!
“I should have gone there earlier… Highly recommend JaneFrances Chantal Atuhaire (owner of EcoQuest Vacations)!” — Dr. Vivek https://www.linkedin.com/posts/vivekmohindra_uganda-usspeakerprogram-ai-ugcPost-7453460906421956608-s-_p?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAABBdyokB6qshCcJIyRcVfZ_X2uiKrqLlr0o
3. The Taste of the Pearl
You can’t talk about a trip to Uganda without mentioning the food. Dr. Vivek officially crowned Uganda as having the “best pineapple in the world.” While he’s still loyal to Indian mangoes (we’ll agree to disagree on that one), the hospitality and organic flavors of Uganda left a lasting impression.
